Ask your doctor or nurse any questions that you may have. When you have an appointment with your doctor, you may get sidetracked and forget the questions you have, so make sure you jot down your questions and note the answers. Don’t just take the medication you are given; learn about the medication you are taking so that you know exactly what you are putting into your body and why. Ask questions about it, and you will find that your health care team will help you put it into perspective.

Your health is not just your doctor’s concern, it is yours too. You need to make lifestyle adjustments that will benefit you following your diagnosis. Look out for and attend support groups for your condition. You will gain valuable insights as to how best cope with your condition from people that are in a similar position. There will be hints, tips and tricks that you pick up that doctors and nurses do not know about, and it is an opportunity for you to socialize in a space where you do not have to explain or feel like you need to apologize for your condition.
