Probably one of the most essential foods to have in your pantry, peanut butter is an American staple that has many nifty uses. Check out our 5 Surprising Facts about Peanut Butter and watch your appreciation for this niblet grow!

5 Surprising Peanut Butter Facts

Peanut Butter Facts #1 - They’re…. NOT nuts?

Nope, they’re not! Peanuts do not grow in trees like walnuts, cashews, or pecans. They are actually legumes and very nutritious ones at that. Peanuts are full of protein and cell-building Vitamin Bs such as folate and niacin. Just one serving of peanut butter (2 tbsps), contains 8g of protein and 2g of fiber to keep you fuller longer.

Peanut Butter Facts #2 - Let it Grow.. let it grow!

Peanuts, grown underground, are typically planted between April and May. The biggest peanut states in the U.S. include Georgia, Texas, North Carolina, Alabama, and Florida. An average peanut farm contains approximately 100 acres with one acre growing enough peanuts for 30,000 peanut butter sandwiches. That’s pretty much a lifetime supply of peanut butter for 5 people!

Peanut Butter Facts #3 - Delicious household cleaner!

You would not believe the different things peanut butter can be used for around the house. Use it to clean and moisturize leather or to debug your windshield. As a lubricant and a mild abrasive, peanut butter has been known to take out sticky gum out from hair, glue or sticker residue, and even the scratches on a CD! But wait, there’s more! If you fry some peanut butter in a pan, the smell will eliminate any displeasing stenches in your home! Way to finish off your peanut-cleaning stampede with a warm peanut aroma.

Peanut Butter Facts #4 - America LOVES peanut butter.

Did you know that 540 peanuts are needed to make a 12oz. jar? According to the National Peanut Board (yes, it exists), about 90% of American households have a jar of peanut butter. On average, an American adult eats about 3 lbs of peanut butter a year, which contributes to the millions of 18oz. jars that would circle the earth 1.3 times from one year’s consumption.

Peanut Butter Facts #5 - Animals also LOVE peanut butter.

Even comfort animals need comfort food. Dogs especially will go crazy for some creamy peanut butter. Use some natural, unsweetened peanut butter to top off a biscuit or squeaky toy to make them even more appetizing. Use peanut butter as well to control some unwanted critters like mice and insects.

It’s a food. It’s a cleaner. It’s a super food! There just seems to be more and more reasons for people to fall in love with peanut butter. Try making your own or give some of these peanut-hacks a go!
