For diabetes blog week, day 1, we wrote how impressed, inspired, and motived we are every day by people living with diabetes and how they are not letting it define them or discourage them from living the lives they want.
And while this is true, we do also often hear from many people living with diabetes that when they are first diagnosed, they go through a period of feeling down and asking themselves, “why me?”
Self-blame is unfortunately a negative side effect that we see with many other conditions as well. At healtheo360, it is our hope to help raise people out of that mentality. It is so important to forgive yourself and your body; to continue living a life that makes you healthy and happy.
So, along with all the old test strips and snack wrappers, one thing that we would love to see “cleaned out” of the diabetes closet is the sense of self-blame! There is so much to celebrate in life and hanging on the question of “why me?” will only serve to hold oneself back.
We certainly understand that this may be easier said than done, but try to listen to the stories of others, see hope in your situation, and understand that you are not alone. There are many “diabuddies” who are happy to share their story with you, and hope to hear yours, in the hopes of inspiring, motivating, and supporting one another.
