When 2 pm rolls around, you feel like the day is dragging on. Need an afternoon pick me up? Here are some foods that will give you that afternoon energy boost

Energy boost

Fresh fruit and a serving of almonds

This combination is quick, healthy, delicious, and affordable. The carbs and sugar in the fruits are a natural pick me up. Oranges, bananas, apples are all great options for a healthy mid day snack.

Roasted edamame

Edamame is a great source of fiber and has high protein content. Thawing shelled edamame beans and roasting them on a baking sheet at 375 degree Fahrenheit for 40 minute can prepare this chewy snack. Keep stirring every 10 minutes and ¼ cup makes a serving. should be enough for a snack. Season the edamame with salt and pepper for taste.

Low Fat chocolate milk

Sometimes you’ll start feeling tired because your body is dehydrated. A nice cold refreshing drink may be all you need for a quick pick me up.

Greek yogurt and fresh berries

Go for a low fat or non-fat Greek yogurt, topped with fresh fruits and this delicious snack will give you that energy boost in the afternoon!

KIND bars

These bars are becoming the popular choice for snacks because of its convenience and nutrient value. The bars are low in sugar and high in fiber. KIND bars can come in a variety of flavors such as dark chocolate sea salt or cranberry dark chocolate.

Grapefruit wedges and cottage cheese

Cottage cheese can come in 90 calories packs and when paired with a grapefruit wedge, it will become an instant pick me up snack. The protein from the cottage cheese and grapefruit citrus aroma will make you feel full and provide energy.

So put down that coffee pot. These snacks are great options for an instant energy boost, instead of chugging another cup of coffee, only to find you unable to sleep at nights. By having healthy snacks on hand, such as foods high in fiber, protein, and healthy fats, these foods can provide more energy than a caffeine crash.
