Coffee has always had a “is it or isn’t it healthy?” cloud hovering over it. Some people swear by a cup a day, and some avoid it altogether. While coffee may not be a super food, there are many benefits of coffee. However, like most things, consuming coffee in excess probably isn’t good for you. However, a cup or two a day can give you some energy, nutrients, and countless of other health benefits.

Top benefits of coffee

Benefits of coffee #1: There are a variety of healthy nutrients in coffee

Nutrients like riboflavin, pantothenic acid, manganese, and potassium are included in coffee. Riboflavin, also known as Vitamin B2, is essential for the functioning of enzyme mechanisms. Pantothenic acid is also an essential vitamin needed for the synthesizing of proteins. Coffee is an excellent way to consume these needed nutrients—in addition to the other ways they are consumed in your diet.

Benefits of coffee #2: Coffee can help you burn fat

Data has shown that coffee can increase the metabolic rate by as much as 3-11%. This will increase the rate at which the body burns fat. It has been estimated that caffeine can escalate the burning of fat by 10-29% depending on the body weight of the individual.

Benefits of coffee #3: Coffee is Full of Antioxidants

Antioxidants are awesome you for, as they prevent the oxidation of other molecules. Oxidation causes the formation of free radicals, which can lead to the damage of cells. Coffee is a huge source of antioxidants, and even considered to be one of the largest sources of antioxidants in the western diet—making this a great benefit of coffee.

Benefits of coffee #4: It improves energy levels and keeps you focused

The caffeine in coffee is famous for its ability to wake people up, and to help eliminate drowsiness. Caffeine works by suppressing Adenosine, which normally inhibits other neurotransmitters. Thus, neurotransmitters like norepinephrine and dopamine increase, leading to increased neuron firing and more alertness. This improves many areas of the brain: including memory, energy, and mood.

Benefits of coffee #5: Coffee can improve physical performance

Improved workouts are another one of the benefits of coffee. Caffeine in coffee also increases the amount of adrenaline secreted into the blood stream. With the way caffeine works to increase the breaking of fat cells, coffee also increases the amount of fatty acids released into the blood steam to be used a fuel while exercising.

While coffee does have a plethora of benefits, having tons of cups a day isn’t good for you. It does work as a stimulant and increase heart rate and blood pressure, and try to avoid adding to much sugar or cream, because then it becomes pretty high in calories. But in general a cup or two a day came be beneficial and a great way to jump-start your day.
