Mental Illness Awareness Week:  This week (Oct 2-8) marks Mental Illness Awareness Week. To commemorate those affected by mental illness, the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) is encouraging participants to help raise awareness of mental illness and fight the stigma of mental disorders.

Today, roughly 54 million Americans suffer from a mental disorder each year. With over 200 different types of mental disorders, this issue is more widespread than ever. But what exactly is mental illness?

Characterized by changes in behavior and/or mood, mental illness is a disease that affects a person’s quality of life and ability to carry out daily functions. Depression, bipolar disorder, dementia, and anxiety disorders are some of the more common examples.

In an effort to reduce the stigma surrounding mental illness, NAMI is asking people to take the #StigmaFree pledge

If you have recently been diagnosed with a mental disorder, it is important to know that you are not alone. There are many treatment options available for treating mental illness, including therapy and psychiatric medication. However, there are also a handful of natural remedies that may help reduce symptoms associated with mental illness. Here are some natural ways you can combat mental illness:
