Is It Possible To Lose 11 Pounds In 4 Days And Keep It Off?
We all like to see results – fast. Fad diets and crash diets never lead to healthy permanent weight loss. So what’s the best way? Simply burn more calories than you consume.
A recent study published in The Scandinavian Journal of Medicine & Science in Sports, stated intense exercise combined with low calorie intake could reduce body fat in just four days and be kept off. The study was led by Jose Calbet, a professor at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in Spain; with his colleague Hans Holmberg, a professor at Mid Sweden University.
How was it done? 15 overweight fit Swedish men controlled their calorie intake to 360 calories a day, instead of the 2200 calorie recommendation and most consumption came from a high-protein drinks or sugary drinks.
The men also performed gruesome physical activities for four days, drinking as much low-calorie sport-type drink as they wanted. The day started with a 45 minute upper body workout then hiking the countryside for eight hours, taking breaks every hour for 10 minutes.
After four days, the group of men each lost a vast amount of body fat although losing muscle mass as well. However, frequent protein drinks can conserve muscle mass. Whether the sugary or high protein drinks were consumed, the weight loss outcome was the same.
Subsequently after the study, the men did not promptly put the weight back on and instead lost more body fat. The men claimed that they thought it was going to be a harder and none of them complained about hunger.
Based on the study, Dr. Calbet suggests the successful outcomes is the result of the men’s motivation to change their lifestyles and become healthier. This study has not yet been done with women.
