Summer is the perfect time to eat fruits and vegetables as many of them are in season during June, July and August. Whether you are a regular fruit and veggie eater or trying something new is adventurous, give these foods a go at your next meal!
Seasonal Greens and Fruits: Peaches
Peaches are in season from May to September. A strong smell of peaches will linger in the air if they are ripe. Look for peaches that are firm with no signs of bruising or wrinkles.
Seasonal Greens and Fruits: Watermelon
Fresh watermelon can be found from May to September but are at their peak from June to late August. When picking a watermelon, look for an unblemished melon without any cracks or soft spots. Look for a pale yellow patch on the bottom, this indicates where the melon sat on the ground and is now ripening.
Seasonal Greens and Fruits: Plums
Plums, in season from May to November, are best when the skin is tart and rough. The flesh is sweet, soft and juicy.
Seasonal Greens and Fruits: Basil
Basil is available in supermarkets year round but is best from June to October. There are more than 60 types of basil available and if you are harvesting it in your garden, do so on a sunny day. The sun brings out essential oils in the basil.

Figs are best during June and July. They require little work. Rinse, dry and enjoy!
Seasonal Greens and Fruits: Tomatoes
Tomatoes are rip from June to October. They ripen on a vine and will continue to ripen even after being picked. Best when a nice red color.
Seasonal Greens and Fruits: Corn
May through September is peak season for Corn. When looking for a good ear of corn, make sure the silk is brown but not completely dried up. If kernels are to the top of the ear and plump, the corn is ready to go!
Seasonal Greens and Fruits: Eggplant
When checking for ripeness of an eggplant, press your thumb into the skin. A ripe eggplant will bounce back, leaving no indentation to the skin. Eggplants are in season from June to October.

You may see zucchini in the supermarket year round, but its peak season is June through late August. Zucchini is a summer squash like yellow squash and pattypan squash. Ripe squash will be heavy and have a blemish-free rind.

Available May through August, North America is the world’s leading producer of blueberries. Blueberries are extremely nutritional as they are high in antioxidants, fiber and vitamin C. Blueberries are best when powder-blue and all of the same size.
