7 Tips For Healthy Skin This Winter

There are few things worse for the skin than the horrible dry air that comes with winter weather. But don’t hate on the winter season just yet—there are a number of ways to fight back against the elements to keep your skin looking and feeling awesome!

Tips For Healthy Skin This Winter

Healthy skin tip 1:

Moisturize, Moisturize, Moisturize

In the winter the dry, cold air is not a friend to your skin. It is important for your face and body to continually moisturize to avoid dry, flaky skin. Try to use an oil-based moisturizer for better results.

Healthy skin tip 2:

Keep using sunscreen

Don’t put the sunscreen away in the winter—it is still super important to protect your face from the sun. Damage can still occur in the winter, especially from snow glare.

Healthy skin tip 3:

Keep hot showers short

As amazing as it feels to take a hot shower in the winter, it won’t do your skin any favors. Hot showers eliminate moisture from the skin, so try to take only one 10- minute warm shower a day. If you do feel the need to take a hot bath—add in jojoba oil to moisturize skin. After showering, try to just pat yourself dry and quickly put on lotion so it soaks up into your skin.

Healthy skin tip 4:

Lightly Exfoliate

Exfoliating is an important part of any skin care routine to remove dead cells, however don’t go overboard in the winter or your skin will become even drier. If you find your skin getting irritated take a few days off, but keep exfoliating so dead cells can be removed.

Healthy skin tip 5:

Gloves are your friend

During the winter gloves can work to trap moisture on your hands and feet. Wear gloves when outside to protect against elements, and if your hands get too dry: before you go to bed put on lotion and wear cotton gloves to bed.

Healthy skin tip 6:

Socks are also your friend

The winter air can make your feet especially dry and cracked. To try and fight this: put on lotion and then sleep with your socks on. Don’t forget to use exfoliate or a pumice stone to remove dead cells first.

Healthy skin tip 7:

A humidifier can make a big difference

A good humidifier will put moisture in the air and help prevent your skin from drying out. They will balance out the lack of moisture from the heat in your home.
